FOUNDED BY ST. VINCENT DE PAUL, patron of all charity , the Ladies of Charity responded to the needs of the poor in seventeenth century France. Together with St. Louise de Mariliac, they went quietly about their tasks, seeking no recognition, satisfied with the knowledge that they were serving Christ in the person person of the poor.
THE LADIES OF CHARITY, since their origin, have possessed the charism of their founder, daily prayer and personal service to the poor. That same Vincentian spirit characterizes the Association today. It asks the personal gift of self, of time, devotion, sacrifices, and perseverance in the effort to bring dignity to each person and to respond with compassion to every human misery .
The Ladies of Charity-Lake Travis, organized in 1991 as an ecumenical group, was the first traditionally Catholic organization in our parish. Once the Ladies of Charity-Lake Travis was organized, they started the Thrift Shop as their means of funding.
Lake Travis Thrift Shop is 100% volunteer and all proceeds go to charity. The primary beneficiaries are Lake Travis Crisis Ministry, Healthcare Volunteer Associates Clinic Lakeway, support also goes to Spicewood Helping Hands Crisis Ministry, St Vincent de Paul -Queen of Angels, St Louise House, Mobile Loaves and Fishes Austin, Caritas Austin, Catholic Charities Food Pantry Austin, Green Santa HBVFD Ladies Aux, Summer Lunch Program LTLove, LOC LT low income housing Library Project and various other emergency requests.
In Kind donations go to Medina Thrift, various animal shelters/rescue, St Edwards University Theatre, Fairy Godmother Foundation and metal recyling to name a few.
Volunteers are always welcome if you can spare some of your time to help us "sort things out" , inquire at the shop.
The joy of being associated with women dedicated to the mission of Christ in the family of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac may be yours as a Lady of Charity
